Autoimmune Nutrition & Lifestyle Coaching in Santa Cruz, CA
Tired of Being Told Your Autoimmune Symptoms Are Just Something You Have to Live With? You Don't Have to Anymore!
Living with an autoimmune condition can leave you feeling as though your only option is to manage symptoms and accept whatever comes next. Janie Priest, RN does not believe the conversation should end there.
Drawing on decades of nursing experience, her own autoimmune health journey, and years of study in nutrition and holistic health, Janie works with people who want to explore the many factors that may influence how they feel, including nutrition, inflammation, gut health, stress, sleep, movement, mindset, emotional well-being, and daily habits.
Her goal is not to replace your physician or promise a cure. It is to help you understand what may be within your control and build a realistic, whole-person plan designed to support your health and quality of life.
Janie’s Own Autoimmune Health Journey
Janie Priest, RN understands how frustrating it can feel when chronic symptoms begin controlling your life because her interest in autoimmune health is deeply personal. After experiencing serious health problems herself, including severe atrial fibrillation that led to emergency and intensive care, Janie began questioning whether simply managing symptoms was the only path available to her. That experience led to years of study in nutrition and holistic health, inflammation, gut health, stress, lifestyle, and holistic wellness. Today, she combines decades of nursing experience with what she learned through her own health journey to help others become more active participants in their health. She does not expect every client to follow the same path she did. Her goal is to help each person better understand what may be influencing how they feel and identify realistic changes that fit their individual circumstances.
Why Janie Looks at the Whole Person
Janie believes a diagnosis is only one part of a person’s health story. Two people with the same autoimmune condition can have very different food habits, stress levels, sleep patterns, digestive concerns, energy levels, emotional challenges, and daily routines. Her approach considers nutrition, inflammation, gut health, movement, sleep, stress, mindset, relationships, and the environment around you. When it is meaningful to the client, conversations may also include personal values, purpose, and spiritual well-being. Janie does not believe the mind, body, and emotional life should automatically be separated when someone is trying to improve their overall health. The goal is not to search for one magical answer, but to understand the patterns in your life that may be helping or working against you and identify areas where practical changes may support better health and quality of life.
Nutrition, Inflammation, Stress, and Daily Habits
Food is an important part of Janie’s approach, but she does not view nutrition in isolation. What you eat, how well you sleep, how much stress you experience, how active you are, and how consistently you care for yourself can all influence how you feel from day to day. Janie generally emphasizes whole, minimally processed foods and plant-forward eating patterns rather than extreme diets or temporary fixes. She may also help clients look at stress, anxiety, sleep, motivation, thought patterns, and other everyday factors that can make healthy changes easier or harder to maintain. Her goal is not perfection. She wants clients to understand why they are making changes and build habits that can realistically become part of everyday life.
What Janie Means When She Says You Don’t Have to Just Live With It
When Janie says, “You don’t have to live with it anymore,” she is not promising that every autoimmune disease can be cured or suggesting that medical care is unnecessary. She means you do not necessarily have to stop asking questions, stop learning about your body, or assume that nothing in your daily life can change. Nutrition, sleep, stress management, movement, healthier routines, and greater awareness of how your body responds to different choices may all provide areas where you can take a more active role in your health. Janie wants clients to focus on what may be within their control and work on those areas one step at a time. Her goal is for you to feel informed, involved, supported, and hopeful rather than powerless.
What Autoimmune Nutrition and Lifestyle Coaching Looks Like
The process begins with conversation. Janie wants to understand what you are experiencing, what you have already tried, what your typical day looks like, and what you hope to change. She may ask about food habits, digestion, sleep, stress, energy, movement, medications, medical care, and other lifestyle factors that help create a fuller picture. From there, she helps you identify practical priorities, which may include improving meal quality, creating more consistent sleep routines, reducing everyday stress, increasing appropriate movement, becoming more aware of habits that affect how you feel, or simply adding healthier structure to your day. Janie does not expect you to transform your life overnight. She would rather help you build realistic habits that can last.
Working Alongside Your Doctors and Medical Care
Autoimmune nutrition and lifestyle coaching is not a replacement for medical diagnosis, testing, medication, mental health treatment, or care from your physician or specialist. Janie encourages clients to continue appropriate medical care and discuss significant treatment, medication, supplement, or dietary changes with qualified healthcare professionals. Her role is different. Medical appointments often focus on diagnosis, testing, medication, and disease management, while Janie can spend more time looking at the everyday choices that happen between those appointments. She helps clients turn broad health goals into practical daily action by looking at nutrition, sleep, stress, movement, mindset, routines, and other lifestyle factors that may deserve attention.
Decades of Nursing Experience With a Personal Approach
Janie brings decades of experience as a registered nurse, years of study in nutrition and holistic health, her own difficult health journey, and a lifetime of working directly with people. At this stage of her life, her motivation is simple. She wants to use what she has learned to help people. She is not interested in pressuring someone into a program that is not right for them or making promises simply to gain a client. Janie listens before making recommendations and wants to understand the person behind the diagnosis. For her, success means helping someone become more informed, more confident, and more capable of taking an active role in their own health. When someone who has struggled for years begins making meaningful progress and feels more in control of their life, that is why she continues doing this work.
